Machining Supervisor - 2nd WKND

Job Function/Responsibilities

  • Supervises the work of up to 50 employees who operate a variety of machine tools of different complexity

  • Will ensure 5S standards are maintained throughout the factory floor.

  • Will participate in various 5S and lean standard work events

  • Will continue to maintain established lean flow lines, identify and troubleshoot issues affecting flow outside of the established lean / flow process and correct them.

  • Supervisor operators that perform finishing or secondary operations throughout the factory

  • Responsible for supervising operations such as manual and CNC milling, mill/turn, lathes, broach, Swiss and other hand operations

  • Ensure operators perform quality work by performing dimensional and visual audits of operator’s production.

  • Identify issues with cycle time and notify the appropriate engineers

  • Identify training needs of operators and ensure the operators receive additional training as needed until the operator is fully trained in operational and quality standards

  • Coordinate training activities on the floor in corroboration with other, managers, leads, supervisors and training manager

  • Discipline employees when personnel, behavior, production output, attendance and quality are not maintained. Consult with HR before and during the disciplinary process

  • Maintain a safe workplace at all times by compliance with applicable safety rules. Work to prevent injuries!

  • Conduct investigations when injuries occur in coordination with safety and security

Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Supervision or lead of a machine shop

  • Skilled in machine set-up preferred

  • Uses Standard Measuring Equipment and reads complex blueprints

  • Good working knowledge of shop math

  • Understands machining operations, the type of problems that occur and utilize the appropriate resources to correct the deficiencies

  • Will champion 5S and lean efforts within his or her area of responsibility

  • Maintain a safe working environment by following policies and procedures outlined in the employee handbook.

  • Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.

  • A certain degree of creativity and latitude is required.

  • This position requires that the person be a highly organized, self-motivated individual who can work independently.

  • Must be open minded, energetic and able to work under pressure.

  • Must have strong leadership skills, with excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Must be able to manage multiple tasks and priorities and easily adapt to changing situations.

Requirements

Education/Experience Required

  • ASBM or ASME preferred and a minimum of 2-years-experience as a production supervisor, cell leader, lead or set-up

  • Diploma, GED and minimum 5-years-experience as a production supervisor, cell leader, lead or set-up in lieu of educational requirements

  • Prefer lean manufacturing experience; preferably lean green belt or lean black belt

  • Prefer formal 5S training

  • Experience with factory safety requirements, MSDS and accident investigations
