Job Description

Job Summary and Objectives

Tool Design Engineers design, develop, test, and evaluate integrated systems for managing industrial production processes, including human work factors, quality control, inventory control, logistics and material flow, cost analysis, and production coordination.


Essential Functions:

  • Reverse engineer digitized scans.
  • Use Catia V6 and / or other software programs the employer uses to do generative shape design, part design, and assembly work benches.
  • Designs a variety of tools, jigs, and fixtures for production and experimental use.
  • Designs composite tooling. 
  • Ensure to manufacture process troubleshooting. 
  • Manage purchasing, design and manufacturing prototype as well as production tooling. 
  • Correspond with procurement and participate in APQP process to ensure tooling arrives correctly and on time. 
  • Collaborate with production to create new tooling designs.
  • Develop tooling standards utilizing lessons learned approach for enhancing designs plus reduce scrap.
  • Prepare new tooling sources to reduce cost and enhance quality inclusive of non-U.S. sources. 
  • Correspond with customers to facilitate design tooling to be cost effective, as well as repeatedly develop quality components. 
  • Design low, as well as high volume, stamping tooling on basis of customer specifications
  • Collaborate with estimator on initial layout concepts.
  • Other duties as assigned by Supervisor.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

Tool Design Engineers usually work in offices with lighting appropriate to the position and well-ventilated for concentration.  They must be able to sit and type for long periods of time, with ability to focus on details generated on a computer screen.

Work Environment

Wear Common Protective or Safety Equipment applicable to the job, such as Safety Shoes, Glasses, Gloves, Hearing Protection.

This is a full-time position, and days of work and hours of operation are dependent upon the needs of the client.

Required Education and Experience

•         May require a Bachelor’s Degree in an area of specialty related to engineering

•         Minimum of 5 years of experience designing tools and fixtures for manufacturing in an aerospace environment

•         Knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices and procedures within a particular field.

•         Machining experience preferred.
